The surroundings of where my mind was to blossom. The grounds where my mind was to thrive would be the Capitol of the Confederacy. I do not want to presume that everyone may know what that means so I will attempt to describe it. Let’s not go directly to the Capitol of the Confederacy and let’s just deal with what confederate means: It means a person one works with, especially in something secret or illegal—an accomplice. And what could be more secret more illegal as the beginning of the country? There are no words to describe it. You can’t even begin to think of the words to assemble to try and put it together. The closest you can get to the pain and horror for the people who did not start this enterprise is listening to their descendants sing. That’s it. Thats the only way. Listen to Muddy Waters Sing. Listen to Mahalia Jackson Sing. Listen to James Brown Sing. Listen to Aretha Franklin Sing. At the breaking point of their voices are memories of the people where no one could speak their language. “There is a lesson in this for those who have eyes.”
